Naval Surface Warfare Center Recognizes Patents

In late July 2020, the Naval Surface Warfare Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) in Virginia held a video presentation for Honor Awards, Innovation, and Patents. The virtual ceremony debuted on an internal website, beginning with remarks by the NSWCDD Commanding Officer Capt. Stephen Plew, NSWCDD Technical Director John Fiore, and U.S. Rep. Rob Wittman.

This year’s awardees participated virtually along with their family and friends as a celebration of accomplishments, scientific breakthroughs, and innovations. The inclusion of family and friends truly demonstrates the importance of the work that is done at NSWCDD and recognizes the awardees efforts and the support from their family and friends.

In addition to recognizing teamwork and individual achievements, the NSWCDD also recognized their inventor teams for their contributions to efficiency, economy, and scientific breakthroughs.

Continuing to recognize accomplishments and achievements during these times of work-from-home is important to your innovation culture of appreciation and inclusion.

Unanticipated benefits of virtual award ceremonies?

1. It may be actually easier to encourage participation from managers, leaders, and other VIPs.

2. It is likely to be easier to get participation from extended friends and family in larger numbers. Both of these increase the value of recognition!
