UNCP’s first patent to aid in Alzheimer’s disease and TBI treatment

Ben A. Bahr, Ph.D. and his team at UNC-Pembroke Biotechnology Center have been granted the first patent in the school’s 132-year history.

UNCP was originally established as school for American Indians, then it became not only a school but also a teacher school. Now it is part of the UNC system.

One of our owner’s has multiple connections to this milestone. S Capps PhD is not only part Lumbee, some of the land that the University sits on was once family land, her mother went to college at Pembroke State University, and her grandmother died from Alzheimer’s Disease. There are also family stories that her grandfather trained and taught at the Indian Normal School.

We’re pleased to recognize Dr Bahr and his team for the innovative accomplishment in furthering treatment of Alzheimer’s Disease, Traumatic Brain Injury, Huntington’s Disease, and ALS.
