The Röhm Award is named after Otto Karl Julius Röhm, one of several chemists in 1928 that developed polymethyl methacrylate, also known as acrylic. One of the initial founders of Röhm and Haas chemical company which would later go on to become Dow Chemical. Röhm was named inventor or co-inventor on over 70 patents in his lifetime.
